Holiness is a process of seperation that is precipitated by the giving of the Spirit in regeneration. To be holy is to be distinct, separate, in a class by oneself. The primary meaning of holy is ‘separate.’ It comes from an ancient word that meant, ‘to cut,’ or ‘to separate. People or things are made Holy by the Holy Spirit.

When things are made holy, they are consecrated, they are set apart unto purity. They are to be used in a pure way. They are to reflect purity as well as apartness.

There is an holiness attained by regeneration and justification at repenentance be we are compelled in God's word to pursue a life that exemplifies a Holy nature in our everyday walk.
Hebrews 12:15
2 Tim 2:22 and many more.

Hope this helps.
